Anne Frank
(1929–1945)
The life of Anne Frank was tragically short. She was born in Frankfurt-am-Main in Germany on June 12, 1929, and she died in a concentration camp in March 1945. Anne lived only 16 years. During World War II, the Nazis persecuted Jewish people and the Franks were forced to go into hiding. While in hiding, Anne wrote the diary that would become one of the most famous diaries in the world.
The last entry in Anne's diary is August 1, 1944. It was three days after this date that the Nazis raided the Secret Annexe where Anne's family hid. All the occupants of the attic were sent off to concentration camps. Tragically, only two months after Anne died, the Allies liberated her camp.
Of all the occupants of the Secret Annexe, only Mr. Frank survived. Anne's red-checkered diary was found by Miep—one of the friends who had helped hide the Franks. Miep gave the diary to Mr. Frank when he visited after the war.
